What is the AI Assistant?

The AI Assistant is a conversational tool developed by Freepik. It allows you to generate and edit images through a real-time chat interface, enriched with features designed specifically for creative workflows. You can choose between different generation models (like ChatGPT, Flux Kontext, Google Nano Banana, and many more) depending on your goals.

You can access the AI Assistant from the homepage or directly through the AI Suite.

In addition to chatting, you can upload your images or reuse AI-generated visuals to edit them.

How does the AI Assistant work?

The AI Assistant works through real-time conversation. You describe what you want, and the Assistant generates or edits visuals accordingly.

To make the process more efficient and tailored to your needs, the Assistant also includes a set of features you can use alongside the chat.

Set the aspect ratio and select your assets

Before generating or editing an image, you can shape its layout and content by choosing the right aspect ratio and, if needed, adding visual input.

To set the aspect ratio:

• Select the aspect ratio button from the horizontal bar just below the chat input.

To add image input, click the + button in the same bar below the chat box. Then, select how you want to bring in visuals: Upload file (from your device), Use your creations (images you’ve generated with Freepik tools), or Use stock (search Freepik’s content library).

Choose your generation model

Before generating or editing an image, select the model that best suits your creative goal. In the AI Assistant chat, open the settings gear in the lower right of the prompt box to see the model list and provide specific prompt instructions as needed. The available models include:

• Auto: Lets the system choose the most suitable model based on your prompt.
• GPT Medium / GPT HQ: General‑purpose models with increasing quality and detail; GPT HQ gives richer detail and resolution than standard GPT.
• Flux Kontext [Pro] / [Max]: Creative engines focused on visual coherence and layout control; Max provides tighter structure and text handling.
• Seedream 4 / Seedream 4 4K: Advanced multimodal image generation and editing designed for high resolution and multi‑image consistency; produces detailed visuals up to 4K and supports complex scene composition.
• Google Nano Banana / Google Nano Banana 2: Based on Google’s Gemini image models (Nano Banana is Gemini 2.5 Flash Image, with Nano Banana 2 offering improved reasoning and prompt handling); known for fast generation, strong realism, and reliable multi‑image edits.
• Runway Gen4: A model tuned for creative storytelling with reference support, good for scenes with consistent visual themes.
• Imagen 4: A high‑capability model optimized for realistic and expressive text‑to‑image generation.
• Mystic 2.5 Fluid: Balances artistic style with detail; ideal for dreamy or stylized visuals.
• Ideogram: Focused on graphic design and typography, great for posters, cards, and layouts that require readable text.

Usage limits and rights

The AI Assistant is available with Premium+ and Pro plans only. Each generation uses credits, and the amount may vary depending on the model. You can find the most up-to-date information on credit usage in this article. You can generate and download as many images as you like. Image downloads do not count toward your daily Freepik asset download limit.
